This is a brand new event starting this week-end in Kingston Jamaica. Former sprinter Michael Jackson is behind this idea. 48 of the top world track runners will run in competition 24 men, 24 women- (see the 2 lists) against 48 invited Grand Slam Challengers There will be 6 events for both men and women each with 8 starters. Short Sprints, Short Hurdles, Long sprints, Long Hurdles, Short Distance and Long Distance (Read the notes for fuller explanations) I have included a list of all 48 competitors. Plus profiles of the 7 GB competitors. GB have Zharnel Hughes, Matthew Hudson-Smith and Josh Kerr in the top24 for men. Neil Gorney is a Challenger. GB have Daryll Neita in the top 24 for women. Dina Asher-Smith and Mekissa Courney-Bryant are Challengers. Dina is going to compete in Long Sprints 200 and 400 m. I have included a Phrase and Vocabulary sheet and a Poem Aid. This Satuday, April 5th the World Triathlon Championships come to the London Aquatics Centre. There are morning heats. The finals of the top 10 men and women will start at 6pm. Please read the notes. I have include profiles on GB’s 6 competitors. Beth Potter is ranked No1 in the world for the elete women. Alex Yee is ranked No3 in the elete men. We have a chance of winning both elete events. Chloe, aged 17, at the 2018 Winter Olympics at Pyeonghang became the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal in the women’s snowboard halfpipe. 4 years later she won the same event in Beijing. She is the World, Olympic, Youth Olympic and XGames champion in the halfpipe. She is the first to win the title at all 4 major events. Joshua born in 1993 has held the World Boxing Organizations (WBO) interim light-heavyweight since September 2024. He was born in Accra, Ghana. His parents now reside in Selsdon South London. Temitope Titillola ‘Temi’ Fagbenie had 11 siblings Her family moved to the UK when she was 2 years old and began to play basketball at the Haringey Angels club. Aged 15 she returned to the USA to study at the Blair Academy in New Jersey. She then attended Harvard University before transferring to the University of Southern California for her final year of NCAA basketball. In 2012 she was 1.93 metres (6ft.4in) tall : she weighed 79.5 kilogrammes (175lbs. She represented Great Britain at the under 16, 18 and 20 levels. She was named in the British team for the 2012 Olympics, Temi has won national championships in Spain, Italy and Great Britain as well as the EuroCup in 2024 with the London Lions. In 2024 she was signed by WNBA team Indiana Fever to a training camp contract She is now suffering from an undisclosed left foot injury. Lets hope she soon fully recovers. Jordan has had a prosthetic leg since he was 18 months old. ‘He channelled and trained the powerful threads that pulsated through his body to play wheelchair basket’ .He played for 20 years at club and national level. His speed and precision impressed everyone on and off the court. He became captain of the Men’s Great Britain Junior Wheelchair basketball team which won 2 European championships. When he retired he picked up the microphone and took up sports reporting. At the 2012 Summer Paralympics he was the sports commentator for the games on Chanel 4.
